Welcome to Oxford Pink Week!

Beginning in 2016 and returning once again this year, the committee of Pink Week 2024, like all preceding committees before it, hopes to make this Pink Week the best Pink Week yet!

Pink Week returns from the 28th January to 3rd February, and whilst we may be called Oxford 'Pink Week', and most of our fund-raising efforts will take place during this week, we will be raising money for our amazing breast cancer charities all year round.

Oxford Pink Week is a student run initiative that supports breast cancer charities based in Oxford and the wide United Kingdom in their fundraising efforts. For most people, breast cancer is a disease close to home. 1 in 7 females in the UK will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime and around 400 men die from the disease each year. However, due to years of scientific research and health campaigns, there is a 76% survival rate, ten years on from a diagnosis (2013-17).

One of the aims of Oxford Pink Week is to inform everyone at Oxford of the way to protect themselves from the disease. The main goal for Pink Week 2024 is to show that breast cancer does not discriminate against age, sex, sexuality or gender identity and we want to encourage ways to help reduce the risk of getting a breast cancer diagnosis.

In Oxford Pink Week 2024, we will be supporting Oxford Breast Buddy, CoppaFeel, Breast Cancer Now, Black Women Rise and Live Through This, through events, collaborations with societies and local businesses, as well as providing information across our social media platforms.

Last year Pink Week surpassed their fundraising goal by over £6,000 raising a grand total of £26,111! Through a number of different events put on through the year from a Blind Date Night’, to a Jazz Night with the Oxford Jazz Society to the amazing Pink Week Ball which raised £13,966 alone! Pink Week 2024 is incredibly proud of the work that Pink Week 2023 completed last year, and we know that we have some big shoes to fill this year.

As we begin a new academic year, I would like to say a huge thank you to the Pink Week 2023 Committee for all the hard work that they did last year to make Pink Week the success that it was. It is because of their hard work and dedication to such a worthwhile cause and putting on such amazing events last year that I became interested in working with this committee in the first place. So far during my time in Oxford, some of the more enjoyable memories related to the events which have been organised by Pink Week on both the university and collegiate level. There is no doubt in my, nor my friends, minds that the Pink Week Ball 2023 was one of the greatest nights of our lives. As president I want to help organise events that students will remember for years to come, and all the while raising money for such a worthwhile cause. Breast cancer is a disease that has had an impact on my life. I want to be part of a committee that will be able to provide support to those who are suffering with breast cancer, as well as the families who support those who are afflicted with the disease.
